Blackburn icon Warhurst confident Allardyce will find gems in market

Blackburn Rovers icon Paul Warhurst has no doubts manager Sam Allardyce can uncover some gems in the summer market.

Warhurst, who made more than 50 appearances for Rovers in his four years at the club in the mid 1990s, played under now Blackburn boss Allardyce at Bolton between 1998 and 2003.

During his spell at the Reebok, the now agent saw several former European stars bought by 'Big Sam' and has hailed his ability to make the right decisions.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I was at Bolton when Sam brought in the likes of Ivan Campo, Fredi Bobic and Jay-Jay Okocha. They all took a while to settle in but became very good signings.

"I remember Jay-Jay's debut at QPR. He got hauled off after about 20 minutes because he was struggling so much and I am sure eyebrows were raised then. He ended up becoming a Bolton legend.

"You only have to look at the World Cup to see the differences in culture in football across the world. Many of the foreign teams pass the ball and it is slowly, slowly, until they get their moment.

"In England, especially the Premier League, it is much faster and that tempo does take getting used to. On top of that Nikola was a young lad with a big price tag so there was also a lot of pressure.

"The long and short of it though is there is still that pressure this season. He has to cope with that and can he? I don't see why not from what I have seen.

"Sam has shown over the years he is good in the transfer market."
