Blackburn Rovers hero Kevin Gallacher is happy to see Roy Hodgson land the England job.

Gallacher had a short spell under Hodgson at Rovers.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "He was the perfect man for the job and I am delighted for him. I am convinced he will do a good job for England because, apart from a blip Liverpool, he always has done.

"If you go through his CV, it ticks all the boxes. He has had experience in Europe, has done some work for UEFA and has even managed on the international stage.

"His coaching ability is second to none as I found out when I played under him. He brings new methods and new thinking and really does improve you as a player.

"In his second season at Rovers, things didn't work out because of injuries and fall outs with players, but that happens everywhere. Also maybe his signings were not the best, but that does not matter in international football.

"I got a lot of stick when I pushed him for the job when it first came up but I thought I was right then and I still think I am. He is the best man for the job."
