Blackburn defender Jones wins first England U19 call

Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones has continued his rapid progress with a first call-up to the England U19 squad.

The 17-year-old has been drafted into Noel Blake's side for their friendly match against Turkey at Glanford Park, Scunthorpe next Tuesday.

Despite his young age, the Chorley-born defender has already made two first team appearances this season. With a man of the match performance in the Carling Cup win away at Nottingham Forest, and again impressing at the heart of the Rovers defence on his Ewood Park debut a month later in the win over Peterborough United.
