Blackburn boss Kean: We must avoid Birmingham errors

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean is wary of repeating the errors of Birmingham City last season.

Rock-bottom Blackburn have made a mockery of their league woes by reaching the quarter finals of the cup.

His weary squad return to Premier League action today at Norwich, still buoyed by Wednesday's dramatic 4-3 extra-time win over Newcastle.

Brum lifted the trophy last season by beating Arsenal 2-1 - but were then relegated.

Under-pressure Ewood chief Kean said: "Relegation is not in the equation. We will be fighting hard to get into a position I feel we deserve to be - and that is further up the table.

"We should enjoy the cup, though, and if we can go all the way it would be great. But the league is the priority.

"It was a victory over a good Newcastle team so it gives us confidence and momentum. We have to take the positives from it.

"The lads played more minutes than we would have liked but when the intensity picks up we have to have enough in the tank.

"Mentally, we will have to be strong because Norwich are a tough side."
