Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince is hoping to close another new signing before the Premiership kicks off against Everton.

The Lancashire Telegraph says Ince is now close to capturing one of his long-standing summer targets.

The player in question is unlikely to be Serbian Nikola Zigic, although the Valencia striker is among those being watched by Rovers.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Rovers, along with Premier League new-boys Stoke City, have made an official approach for the 27-year-old.

However, despite despatching scouts to watch Zigic in action, Blackburn have not submitted a concrete offer to Valencia.
