Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes reckons £3.5m signing Roque Santa Cruz has already proved to be one of the bargains of the summer.

He said: "I think Roque has proved in the short space of time that we've had with him that he's a top quality striker.

"Obviously the price that I was able to acquire him for makes him one of the best buys certainly this summer if not for many summers.

"I think he has the potential to be an outstanding player for us for a long-long time.

"I think a lot of people looked at Roque and sometimes if you look too closely at players you look at all their negatives rather than their positives, and I think that is what has happened with Roque.

"I prefer to look at the qualities that he can bring to the squad and the team and that is why I went for him."
