Blackburn boss Hughes happy to hold back Nelsen

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes says he was happy to hold back Ryan Nelsen for yesterday's victory over Reading.

The New Zealand international returned to training earlier in the week after recovering from the hamstring strain that had kept him out of action for the last month and was expected to be in the 16-man squad for the match at Ewood Park.

But speaking to Radio Rovers, Hughes explained: "He was close in fairness, but I think it is a case that Andre Ooijer has done exceptionally well in place of Ryan so there isn't that urgency to get him back.

"We have to be a little careful with Ryan, but the extra week will do him good."
