Blackburn star David Bentley was named man of the match in the 2-0 defeat of Finnish outfit MyPa-47 as Rovers progressed to the first round proper of the Uefa Cup.
The former Arsenal man opened the scoring with a sublime volley and his overall contribution sent a clear message to England boss Steve McClaren that he is ready to take over the mantle of David Beckham on the right wing.
Bentley's refusal to take part in the England U21 tournament during the summer saw him overlooked for the senior squad but with performances like this his recall can only be a matter of time.
Rovers boss Mark Hughes is more concerned Bentley continues to play well for Blackburn.
"The goal won't do his selection any harm whatsoever but we'll have to wait and see if he has done enough.
"There are injuries on that right hand side so maybe David's time has come, but it's not my decision; David has just got to play well for Blackburn Rovers and most people acknowledge he should be given a chance at senior level."
