Dunn played a part in three of Rovers' goals in their 4-1 thumping of local rivals Bolton at Ewood Park on Sunday and Hughes believes the player's catalogue of injury problems are a thing of the past.
Hughes said: "David is always trying to get involved in a positive way. He is having an influence in the centre of the park which is really important for him.
"He keeps getting stronger and he is training every day now. He has that base of fitness he needs. He possibly hasn't had that for a number of years and that's why he can put in the performances."
