Blackburn boss Bowyer pushes to close deal for Palace striker Wilbraham

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is moving to sign on-loan Crystal Palace centre-forward Aaron Wilbraham today.

The Daily Mail says Bowyer wants to sign Wilbraham on loan even though the 6ft3ins marksman's last league goal came for Norwich against Fulham in March 2012 - 30 games ago.

Despite his lack of goals, Wilbraham's hold-up play is regarded highly by team-mates and the 33-year-old featured in Palace's Championship play-off win against Watford at Wembley and two of their opening three games in the Premier League this season.

Bowyer has admitted looking for a new striker before Saturday's local derby against Burnley with Portuguese winger Fabio Nunes due to join Coventry on loan.

The Rovers manager said: "Fingers crossed but we're hopeful of getting in one in before Saturday. There are a number of names on my list and hopefully we can get an answer off a few people."
