Blackburn boss Allardyce admits youngsters given Man Utd reality check

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce admits his youngsters were handed a reality check by Manchester United on Saturday.

The Rovers boss gave 22-year-old Herold Goulon his full debut in Saturday's 7-1 drubbing at Old Trafford and also gave home-grown Josh Morris his first taste of Premier League action after the break.

With Junior Hoilett also brought on and Phil Jones already in the side, Allardyce has urged his youngsters to learn from a 'tough day at the office'.

He also had a word of praise for Morris's second half contribution, with the 19-year-old's cross creating Chris Samba's late headed consolation.

Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph: "As a manager I wanted to go out in the second half and try to contain the game and keep it at 3-0 for as long as possible and see if we could work our way in it.

"Lo and behold I must have been talking to the wall because three minutes later we are 5-0 down. At that point I decided to bring Amine Linganzi and Josh Morris on.

"Phil Jones and Junior Hoilett were already on and 21 and under it gives them a little bit of experience of what it takes to maintain a level of football at this level and none better than playing against a Manchester United in full flow.

"They will feel exactly what it is like so it could be a good adventure for them.

"But Josh's quality for the goal was a great ball for Chris Samba to score and it is nice to see another young lad from our academy take to the field and I think he has got a lot of promise."
