Paul Ince's future will be decided by the Blackburn Rovers board over the next 24 hours.
The Sun says the Guv'nor survived the aftermath of Rovers' disastrous 3-0 defeat at Wigan as chairman John Williams was at his son's wedding yesterday.
But it is clear the honeymoon is well and truly over for Ince - less than six months after taking charge in East Lancashire.
Last week the Ewood Park board told Ince they would stand by him until the New Year as the club have a favourable run of fixtures coming up.
But their performance at the JJB Stadium - where they slumped to a sixth straight league defeat - surprised everyone and has set the alarm bells ringing again.
Ince will ask Blackburn to let him take charge against Stoke on Saturday to prove he has what it takes to turn things around.
However it is clear any repeat of Saturday's horror against the Potters will be the final straw for the former England international midfielder.
One thing which could work in his favour is the lack of an obvious caretaker on the staff at Ewood.
His assistants Archie Knox and Ray Mathias are unlikely to fit the bill - while their famous stand-in Tony Parkes was booted out by ex-boss Mark Hughes.
