Blackburn Rovers' board appears to have made a decision on Paul Ince's future.
The Daily Mail says Ince's reign as Blackburn Rovers manager was coming to an end last night as a crisis meeting in Manchester determined his fate.
Influential vice-chairman David Brown arrived to convey the deepening concerns of the club's Jersey based trustees but the remaining quandary for the board was whether to make Ince's successor a short-term or long-term appointment.
They were also believed to be thrashing out details of a compensation package before ending Ince's reign.
Former Manchester United and Liverpool star Ince can justifiably feel aggrieved over the brief period he has been given to prove himself but there have been murmurings of discontent since early on in his tenure.
He has remained loyal to the players and defended them even following Saturday's defeat - their sixth on the trot.
Yet some of those same players have been privately critical of Ince's management and training methods, comparing them unfavourably with those deployed under the previous regime of Mark Hughes.
Williams even discussed changes to the make-up of Ince's backroom staff last month, including coaches Archie Knox, Ray Mathias and former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn, in a bid to revitalise performances.
However, Ince has stood by them and is now set to pay the price.
