Blackburn to blank Shearer

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is set to be ignored by Blackburn Rovers for the manager's job.

The Mirror says his candidacy is being promoted to Rovers' global advisor Shebby Singh and managing director Derek Shaw by some top football 'names'.

But Shearer, whose odds have been slashed to make him favourite, is heading for disappointment.

To succeed Steve Kean, who quit last month, the club will seek an experienced character to take them back to the Premier League in the wake of some heavy spending and outlay on hefty wages.

Shearer's popularity with fans was supposed to be a trump card, but the Blackburn gate leapt on Saturday against Wolves following Kean's exit to remove that factor from the equation.
