Alex McLeish looks like making the striker signing he wants, with Birmingham poised to agree a £7m deal for Tottenham hit-man Robbie Keane. The Republic of Ireland skipper has grown frustrated with his role as bench warmer with Spurs and is expected to have a medical at St Andrews in the next 24 hours.
A number of other clubs have been linked with the 30 year old forward, including West Ham, but the Hammers are thought to only want to sign the player on loan.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants an outright sale, putting the Blues in pole position to complete a deal in the near future.
Birmingham are flirting at the wrong end of the table with a lack of firepower being highlighted by McLeish as a major contributory factor.
