Will Packwood is on the verge of joining MLS club New England Revolution according to reports.

The 21-year old defender was released from his contract with English Championship club Birmingham City on Wednesday which has allowed him to return home to the USA.

Packwood will now trial with the Revs and is expected to sign a contract with the team before the May 12 window.

The USA U23 international's contract at Birmingham was set to run until June 30 but the Blues have terminated his deal effective immediately as he eyes a MLS berth.

During his time at St Andrew's, academy product Packwood made 21 senior appearances for the Blues surrounding loan spells with Bristol Rovers, Colchester United and Cheltenham Town.
