Birmingham City are ready to offer a deal to Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.
The Sun says Birmingham have already made inquiries about signing the England keeper for next season.
And that means James would replace the young gun who is his main challenger to the No 1 jersey at the World Cup.
James, 40 in August, makes his final appearance for Portsmouth at the FA Cup final and is then available on a free. He is still in demand - Stoke tried to sign him in January.
