Birmingham City are attempting to close a deal for Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan.
The Mirror says Blues opened talks with Welsh star Vaughan yesterday about joining them on a free transfer - and are prepared to pay wages on a par with those on offer from their Premier League rivals for his signature.
Vaughan has also been chased by Sunderland - although Steve Bruce may see him as a squad player rather than an every-game starter - and has also been offered new terms by Blackpool.
However, Birmingham are making a major play to land highly-rated Vaughan, who was voted Blackpool's best player in their bittersweet season in the top flight.
