Birmingham City have made a new £5 million proposal to Cardiff for defender Roger Johnson.

The Birmingham Mail says Brum have tabled a new bid with a larger down payment - understood to be more than half the total - towards the £5 million fee.

And under the proposal the rest of the money would be due within two years.

Cardiff have consistently knocked Blues back because of their desire to spread the outlay over a longer period of time.

There has never been a problem about the asking price, just the instalments method.

But now both parties are getting somewhere.
