Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is preparing a swoop for Red Bull Salzburg's prolific striker Marc Janko.

The Austria international has been linked with a move away from Salzburg for some time, especially since he scored a remarkable 35 goals in 31 appearances last season, and McLeish is eyeing a January raid for the 26-year old.

"Janko is on a real hot goal scoring streak. He has a big presence," McLeish said.

"He's maybe not yet the same kind of level as Peter Crouch but he's trying to be that kind of player.

"These players like him are out there but can we get them to come to the club? That's the question."
