Birmingham keeper Taylor lauded as Northern Ireland inspiration

Birmingham City goalkeeper Maik Taylor has been lauded as an inspiration for those who wear Northern Ireland's colours.

At 39 the Birmingham goalkeeper is due to face the Faroe Islands on Tuesday on the back of two successive clean sheets in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan, is a huge fan of the shot-stopper.

Craigan, 33, said: "I think when Maik goes I will have to go as I will be the oldest in the squad.

"He always challenges himself, irrespective of whether he is playing or not. At 39 if he keeps wanting to do well and wanting to improve it sets a wonderful example to the younger players in the squad.

"If they have any thoughts or any doubts that they can't be bothered, they should look at Maik and how he goes about his business. I think if he can keep going, I can keep going.

"So he is a great influence on a lot of people. He loves playing for Northern Ireland like most of us do. Having that strength of character is a huge help to me."
