Birmingham keeper Butland close to first team call

Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland came close to first team involvement for yesterday's 1-1 draw with Wolves. reports young goalkeeper Butland, an England under-19 international, was handed a first team squad number yesterday with back-up custodian Colin Doyle a doubt though illness.

But in the end the Irishman recovered sufficiently to take his place on the bench.

Butland is regarded among England's brightest young goalkeeping talents.
