At one point, Parnaby feared for his future due to an on-going back injury that left him on the sidelines for a large chunk of last season.
"This has been the best summer I've ever had," Parnaby told the Sunday Mercury. "It was nice to be fit and come back to pre-season. It's been a good start, I'm lucky, aren't I?
"Me and the lads are lucky to be where we are and I just don't take anything for granted anymore.
"I'm older and I understand things a lot more.
"As a young 'un you think you just want to play and don't understand that it's a team game.
"I'm 28 now and I've got to start maturing a lot and know what my role is in the squad.
"Now I've just got to work hard throughout the rest of my career, it's not long is it? I've only got a few years left so I've got to make the most of it.
"It's been a hectic summer, it went too quick but they always do."
