Birmingham defender Ridgewell credits his "missus" for inspiring comeback

Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell credits his wife to his amazing recovery from a broken leg injury.

Ridgewell has been performing superbly out of position at left-back since his remarkable return in September from a badly broken leg in April against Plymouth.

The star, who usually plays centre-back, admits he is enjoying his football more than ever.

And Ridgewell has credited his wife with inspiring his astonishing recovery.

"It is an incredible low sitting on a hospital bed with my leg in tatters and off at an angle," said dad-of-two Ridgewell. "It was my missus that brought me round as much as anyone.

"She told me you have to get on with it because it is done.

"You have to get your head round it that you have broken your leg and need to get back as quickly as your leg heals. She let me sit down at home but not get away with stuff.

"She made sure I was doing the kids again and I still did the washing up - otherwise you sit there feeling sorry for yourself.

"But now you appreciate it more everytime you run out on the pitch and to be in a winning side is even better."
