Birmingham coach Grant: I would skip Cup glory to stay up

Birmingham City coach Peter Grant admits he'd take Premier League survival over their Carling Cup triumph.

Grant is confident Brum will stay up.

"Winning the Carling Cup was memorable, an absolutely fantastic achievement for this club. We know how much it meant to the supporters," he told the Sunday Mercury.

"But if someone had said, 'you can either win the cup, or stay in the league' without a shadow of a doubt - although I am biting my lip a little here - I'd take the Premier League.

"From personal experience, I know there is nothing greater than having medals on the table from your career to look back at. And the opportunity to win trophies doesn't always come round that often.

"But the Premier League is so important. You want to win every single game you play, of course, and the ideal thing would be to stay up and then relax in the summer with that winners' medal hanging around your neck and celebrate.

"It isn't as simple as that and we know there's a challenge ahead of us still."
