Birmingham City are closing on a deal for Granada midfielder Rene Krhin.

PA Sport says the Slovenia international is in talks to become Gianfranco Zola's second January signing as the Italian looks to add to his squad.

Krhin, who can play as a defensive midfielder, has 30 caps for Slovenia and has previously played for Inter Milan, Bologna and Cordoba.

Zola said: "He's a player we have a big interest in, a Slovenian international with good qualities for us. We'll see if it happens - he is a player who can add something to the team."
