Birmingham boss Redknapp: Aston Villa spent £80m and look what happened to them!

Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp believes that Aston Villa's failure to gain promotion after spending £80m is evidence that money isn't everything.

Atlhought he former Tottenham and West Ham manager stresses that players will need to be brought in at City, Redknapp believes the quality over quantity approach needs to be taken when signing players.

"To be successful, to be up there, it's all about recruitment," he told City's website.

"I don't care how good a manager you think you are, how good a coach you think you are, if you haven't got good players you've got no chance.

"We've got to bring in some players now that are going to be able to compete with the likes of Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Leeds United and Fulham and Aston Villa because all of these teams are going to be strong.

"But there is no guarantee because Aston Villa spent something like £80 million and still finished wherever they finished last year. So, it is a tough, tough division but I do feel like I can put together a team that is going to give us a real chance."
