Birmingham boss McLeish won't blame Sadler

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish was full of praise for fullback Mat Sadler after his error led to Reading's spotkick equaliser yesterday.

Sadler had also given away the spot-kick which let Newcastle back into the game with Birmingham the previous weekend.

McLeish, who was in charge of his first home game since succeeding Steve Bruce, said: "Mat could easily have crumbled after what happened to him but full credit to the way he responded.

"He will know that you can't keep making mistakes in the Premier League. When he is in a similar situation next time to the one against Reading he will kick the ball into the stands."
