Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish says they just lack a cutting edge to their play.
After their 0-0 draw with Manchester City, McLeish was proud of their performance.
He said: "It was a disappointed dressing room after the game because they knew they had a real chance of getting the three points. Everyone was saying Birmingham would do well to keep the score down but it was a very positive performance and the players gave everything.
"They were awesome in their energy and what they put into the game. We are just lacking that finishing touch to one or two things but I think we are still improving.
"It is a new experience for a lot of the players, playing in the Premier League, and a lot of these guys are developing extremely well."
McLeish added: "I liked the performance against Sunderland last week and I've now seen two games in a row of great consistency and quality and the players have got to take that forward.
"The evidence is there that they can compete at this level. It should be planted in their minds now."
