Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is delighted with the form of Liam Ridgewell at left-back.
Ridgewell struck his fourth goal of the season in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
"Ridgewell has done well there," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail. "But such has been the form of the two centre-halves - they've been fantastic - he hasn't been able to move across.
"Vignal started the season against Sporting Gijon at left-back and I thought it was his position to lose.
"But a succession of injuries gave me the opportunity to push Ridgewell out to left-back and he has grabbed it with both hands, he has been exceptional.
"He has got better and better and has kept illustrious names quiet like Walcott against Arsenal the other week - he got hooked after 60 minutes or so - and he faced another tough task against the Liverpool widemen.
"Maxi Rodriguez is a class player, an Argentina international, and with the full-back [Glen Johnson] coming up too, with his dribbling skills, Ridgewell did really well."
