Birmingham boss McLeish happy to hand Redmond, Mutch Cup action

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish was happy to give two of his youngsters their FA Cup chance in defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

The absence of several key players gave two of the young players a chance to shine and man-of-the-match Jordon Mutch and 17-year-old Nathan Redmond, who played more than two-thirds of the game as a substitute, made the most of their opportunity.

"We had two teenagers on the pitch today and they're learning every day. Jordon had another solid game and young Nathan has just turned 17 and we've got to develop these kids for the sake of this club," McLeish told bcfc.com.

"Nathan received the respect of (Paul) Robinson by him backing off because he knew about Nathan's speed.

"He is very effective cutting inside and we saw in the first half with the lovely run that the crowd really warmed to.

"The more they play at this level and interact with senior players, the better they're going to get."
