Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish had no fears losing coach Peter Grant.
Grant has attracted interest from Newcastle United in the past week.
McLeish said it hadn't been unsettling.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "It wouldn't be a concern because I want my staff to excel, including the players, and if they catch somebody else's eye it means they're doing a good job."
He said Grant had settled in well since joining just in time to make the pre-season tour to Hong Kong and China as Roy Aitken's replacement.
"He's a competent guy. We knew his credentials were there.
"I hadn't worked with him before, but I made a few phone calls and I know the character he is having played against him for many years and the homework that I did on him.
"People gave him glowing references, so he's a good lad and he's settled into the job very well."
