Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce is concerned with Steve McManaman's influence over prospective club owner Carson Yeung.

The Mirror says Bruce fears McManaman is playing a role in Carson Yeung's refusal to extend his contract at Birmingham City.

Boss Bruce is suspicious of McManaman's role as director in the Hong Kong tycoon's Grandtop International which is pursuing a £50m takeover at St Andrews. Yeung has described the former England and Liverpool star as a "close friend" who acts as a football advisor - to such an extent he drew up a list of potential signings for Yeung to send to the club.

The influence of McManaman seems to be having a further destabilising effect on the club as Bruce seeks talks to clarify his future with the prospective new owner.
