Birmingham boss backing Muamba to shine

Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce is ready to pitch-in Fabrice Muamba against Chelsea today.

Bruce believes midfielder Muamba can have the same impact on Birmingham as Robbie Savage. England Under-19 captain Muamba has shown signs of having the same sort of qualities as the former Welsh international.

Bruce said: "I hate to go back to Robbie Savage but Fabrice plays with that same sort of enthusiasm and desire which rubs off on everybody.

"He tackles opponents but for me it's his overall drive which is so important. It's alright just tackling people but he breaks play up and drives forward. He tries to make things happen.

"He is as strong as a bull. He is huge and what is he going to be like in three or four years time when he grows up and becomes a man.

"When he first came here I said he would be a big, big player for us and a crowd favourite - like Sav was in his first couple of years here - and that's exactly what he proved to be.

"The way he drove the team on at the end of the season, when the pressure was on in terms of trying to get promotion, was absolutely superb.

"Now he has the challenge of playing in the Premiership but he has got the attitude and athleticism to play in the Premier League and I think he will only get better."
