Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is offering £1.5 million for Espanyol midfielder Jordi Gomez.

Gomez had a cracking campaign at Swansea City and McLeish has been onto his Spanish club in an attempt to seal a deal.

The Blues chief is working on a tight budget but Gomez's fee and wages are well within his range and he hopes to see off a couple of rivals in the next few weeks.
