Birmingham City academy boss Terry Westley says 17-year old centre half Krystian Pearce deserved his call-up for last night's Carling Cup defeat at Blackburn.
"In the last six months Krystian has really kicked on," Westley told the club's website.
"He's come back from the summer break a different player in terms of stature and self belief.
"He was one of the best players for England U18's and with his top form he deserves the opportunity to be around the first team."
