2016 is coming to an end and we are interested to know which Premier League clubs spent the most on players for the calendar year.
The January transfer window of 2016 and the ensuing summer market saw English clubs splash almost £1.2billion on top quality players from all around the world.
Manchester City lead the way with a total yearly spend of more than £174million which was split between such players as John Stones (£50m), Leroy Sane (£37m), Gabriel Jesus (£27m), Ilkay Gundogan (£21m), Claudio Bravo (£17.1m), Nolito (£13.8m), Marlos Moreno (£4.75m) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (£3.4m).
Neighbours Manchester United are around £25m behind having parted with a world-record £89m for Paul Pogba plus £30m on Eric Bailly and £26.3m on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, among other signings.
Chelsea was the third club to spend more than £100m on Michy Batshuayi (£33.2m), N'Golo Kante (£32m), David Luiz (£30m) and Marcos Alonso (£23m).
Rounding out the top five is Arsenal who offloaded £93.1m and reigning champions Leicester City who parted with more than £76m, just ahead of Liverpool.
