Big Sam grateful for Crystal Palace chairman Parish

Former England national team manager Sam Allardyce expresses his gratitude towards Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish.

Sam Allardyce was forced to resign from his dream job as manager of the England national team after only 67 days following a newspaper sting operation but the 62-year-old ended last season on a positive note by guiding Palace safely away from relegation.

Parish certainly took a big risk by appointing Allardyce following his England debacle and the ex-Bolton Wanderers boss has now gone on to thank the Eagles chief for the opportunity at Selhurst Park.

Allardyce said: "I had to be grateful for him [Steve Parish] giving me the job. People would be shying away from me, but he didn't and I paid him back by keeping them up and that experience got me over England.

"The whole team came together and produced some remarkable results. You want to leave with a positive attitude, there's not been a huge amount of trophies in my life, but the success of building a football club is what I look at. I've always left a football club in a better position than when I took over. It's been a great, great journey."
