Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli feels a big club should try to sign Clint Dempsey while they can.
The 29-year old USA international, who has scored 16 Premier League goals for Fulham this season (22 in all competitions), comes out of contract in a year which is prompting some clubs to look his way.
Dempsey has yet to come to an agreement on a new deal with Fulham and Comolli believes it is the perfect time for a top English club to go after his services.
"I would not be surprised [if a big club moved for Dempsey] because for instance when Chelsea signed Raul Meireles from Liverpool last summer, Raul was 29, it was a very, very high amount."
He added: "He is a player I have always liked. I even tried to sign him at Saint-Etienne.
"He has always been a very good player and this year all of his skills have shown even more because he has scored more.""It is very difficult to say, but with the player having only one year left on his contract and his transfer fee probably reasonable, the answer is probably yes [he would make a bid]," he told Soccer Report Extra.
