Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera had promised each Betis player £2,000 for each point they earned in their clash against Real - and was duly rewarded with a famous victory over the Primera Liga leaders.
Edu and Hugo Pavone struck for Betis after Royston Drenthe had put the visitors in front on five minutes.
Betis defender Juanito said: "The team reacted well after that first goal to them. With this 2-1, we were the better unit on the field and we took advantage of being able to catch them with our pace on the break.
"This is three very important points for us, much more after losing at home against Deportivo La Coruna. The fans have been 10 out of 10."
Betis striker Edu also remarked: "After the equaliser, we have played good football. It is true that in other times I've scored goals, but really have not enjoyed playing. But in this case, yes I have been able to enjoy playing and that is very positive. I am very happy with my form."
