Bertos still adapting to new role in New Zealand team

Wellington Phoenix's Leo Bertos says he is still adapting to his role in the New Zealand national team.

The All Whites have deployed Bertos in a deeper wing position than he is used to in recent warm-up matches and with one to go (against Chile tonight) before the World Cup he hopes he can become more accustomed to it ahead of their opener against Slovakia on Tuesday.

"It's taken a bit for me to adjust to that position," he admitted.

"Defensively, I haven't been doing too badly but my role is, more often than not, going forward and that's the aspect of the game that has been lacking recently.

"Maybe that has a little bit to do with opportunities, but maybe I haven't been getting forward enough to help the rest of the team. Hopefully I can start doing that."
