Bernstein blanks questions about England rejecting Guardiola

Former FA chairman David Bernstein has refused to discuss turning down the chance to interview Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola for the England job.

Reports emerged at the weekend that an intermediary acting for Guardiola told Bernstein the Spaniard wanted to be interviewed for the job, however, the FA chairman did not follow that up because he was determined to have an English coach.

"I can't comment on Guardiola," Bernstein told the London Evening Standard. "We discussed various names. We definitely could have appointed a foreign manager and we looked at foreign managers. But Roy Hodgson was the only one we interviewed. He had both European and international experience."
