Former Newcastle United midfielder Olivier Bernard is backing Remi Garde for the Toon job.
The Durham City owner wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "I like the look of Remi Garde as the next manager. He's a younger manager but he has some good experience at Lyon and he was a success there with a team that played football the right way.
"I could see him, if he got the chance, doing a good job at Newcastle if he was given the backing and the resources to really make the most of it.
"Garde has a close friendship with Arsene Wenger and I think that would stand him in good stead. Nothing that he walked into in English football would be a major surprise for him, and if anyone was prepared to come to Newcastle and make it work, I think he would be a good choice."
