Oliver Bierhoff is being lined up for a return to AC Milan.
Milan president Silvio Berlusconi wants the club's former centre-forward to return as a director.
The 42-year-old has been working for the German national team in a position created for him by Jürgen Klinsmann and Joachim Löw, but his presence has created friction within the FA.
He will be available again after the World Cup and the Hamburger Morgenpost understands Berlusconi is keen to use his skills as a director.
It's thought that Berlusconi would like to fill the position once held by Leonardo who went on to become Milan's Coach after being a prominent technical consultant.
