Berhalter thrilled to bring ex-Nordjsaelland ace Parkhurst to Columbus Crew

Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter felt it was a great coup to lure Michael Parkhurst to the club this week.

The Ohio outfit announced on Monday that it has signed the 29-year old defender from German club FC Augsburg and Berhalter was full of positivity after landing the 23-times capped USA international.

"Part of our scouting process is to identify all the Americans abroad, especially those who have been playing with the national team, and look at their current situation, look at if they might be leaving or possibly coming back to MLS," Berhalter told MLSsoccer.com.

"He was one that we identified that potentially wanted to come back, and we got word from his agent that he was, so it was good timing, and he filled the need that we had.

"He's a very intelligent player, he's a very technical player, and he has a lot of versatility. His positioning is great, tactically he's very strong, he's a good organizer. So we feel like we have a good piece."

Parkhurst has previous MLS experience with New England Revolution before he joined Nordjsaelland in 2008 where he helped the Wild Tigers take out the 2011/12 Danish Superliga title.
