Berhalter in positive mood as Columbus Crew complete preseason tournament win

Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter is eagerly anticipating his clubs 2014 MLS season opener this coming weekend.

The Ohio club were successful in the 2014 Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic in Orlando, winning three of their four games, including a 4-1 final triumph over reigning MLS Cup winners Sporting Kansas City.

Despite the favourable results, Berhalter insists that his playing list is in a fairly strong position as they prepare for Saturday's trip to DC United for the 2014 MLS first kick.

"I think we made some progress during that two weeks," Berhalter told MLSoccer.com on Monday.

"The emphasis more was on playing games than training, and we wanted to push the minutes with some of the guys and we did that.

"So overall, I'm pleased with the development of the team, and I think we made some good steps forward."

However, Berhalter is well aware that achieving success ahead of the season proper should not be taken too seriously.

"It's still a preseason tournament, and the real points are Saturday," he added. "And that's what we want to focus on."
