Patrik Berger says his ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is the man to lead England to World Cup glory.

Czech Republic international Berger, ahead of tomorrow's friendly at Wembley, said: "In my opinion Gerrard is one of the best midfield players in Europe, even in the world.

"He is the leader in Liverpool, they wouldn't be where they are without him. And that's what they should do in the England side, give him the freedom, let him feel he is the main man and then he will deliver.

"In the dressing room he doesn't speak that much, he's quite quiet, but he does his talking on the pitch. He can score with his head, right foot, left foot, long and short distance and from set-pieces.

"He has an unbelievable engine, he can run up and down for 90 minutes. For me, he is the complete package."
