Mario Beretta believes Inter Milan would have run away with the title this season if they hadn't sold Mario Balotelli to Manchester City.
Beretta is a former coach of Siena and Lecce.
He said: "The problem for Inter was the departure of Balotelli because if he had been replaced, Benitez's squad would be even more competitive.
"Of course, to understand why the sale happened we need to be in the Inter dressing room. Mario is certainly a great player, but if the leadership has decided to sell, they will have had their reasons."
