It is a huge blow for newly-appointed boss Rene Meulensteen, who worked with Berba at Manchester United.

Turkish club Trabzonspor are already on record as being among the clubs keen on signing the former Tottenham star.

Club president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu said last week: "Berbatov has been on our agenda. We want better and better quality and are endeavouring to add that to our squad.”
