The Bulgaria international striker has a year left on his current deal.
The News of the World says Berbatov has surprised Manchester United by telling them he is happy to see out the last year of his contract.
The striker is the Premier League's Golden Boot, but is no first-choice in manager Sir Alex Ferguson's plans.
